Free Shopify Checkout for WooCommerce

WooCommerce is one of the most versatile and flexible eCommerce platforms. It’s default checkout has several fields that may be the reason for the high cart abandonment rate.

On the other side, the default checkout of Shopify is quite simple and has less number of fields which is why many users want to have a Shopify-like checkout design on WooCommerce.

So, In today’s article, I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process to create the Shopify Checkout in WooCommerce. I’ll be using the AIO Checkout plugin to get the final results. The plugin is an all-in-one solution to all checkout issues.

WooCommerce Checkout Vs. Shopify Checkout

Following is a short comparison between WooCommerce checkout and Shopify checkout.

WooCommerce Checkout

You know WooCommerce has several checkout fields, which may make the checkout page difficult. Because filling out so many fields might be tedious, this may increase cart abandonment and lower conversion rates.

Shopify Checkout

The default Shopify checkout page is straightforward and elegant, with only the necessary checkout fields. In contrast, the WooCommerce checkout page can be optimized to get more sales.

How to Create the Shopify Checkout in WooCommerce?

It is very easy to create the Shopify like checkout in WooCommerce with the help of the AIO Checkout plugin. So please follow the following steps to achieve the final results.

1. Install and Activate the AIO Checkout Plugin

First, download the AIO Checkout plugin from the Woosuite store. It is free for now, and you can get it by submitting the form.

Once you have downloaded it, navigate to the Plugins » Add New from your WordPress admin dashboard, and click the Upload button to upload the downloaded file to install and activate the plugin.

2. Navigate to the AIO Checkout

Once you have installed and activated the plugin, navigate to AIO Checkout from your WordPress dashboard.

3. Create a New Checkout Form

Click the “Create New Checkoutbutton to create a new checkout form. We’ll edit this page in later steps to make it like Shopify checkout.

4. Edit the WooCommerce Checkout Page

Once you click the button, a new checkout form is created. It’ll be the default WooCommerce checkout form, but you can completely customize it to look like Shopify checkout and improve the customer experience.

To create a Shopify like checkout in WooCommerce, follow the following steps.

4.1. Edit the Label of Step 1

We need to edit the label of step 1 to make it more understandable to the users. To do so, click the black “Gear Icon.”

Once you click it, a new window will slide in from the right side of your screen. From the window, you can easily change the label of step 1.

4.2. Change the Label

To change the label of step 1, replace the “Step 1” label with the label you want in the “Step label” field. I am replacing it with “Customer Infomration.”

4.3. Hide all the Fields in the Billing Details Section Except Email

Now we need to hide all the fields in the billing section and keep the email field only. To do this, click the Eye Icon on each field. It will hide the fields.

As in the Shopify checkout, there’s an email field to get the customer’s email address, so We’ll be doing the same to make our checkout page look the same as the Shopify.

Once the fields are hidden, they will be greyed out.

4.4. Change the Label of the Billing Details Section

Once you have hidden the fields, click the black “Gear Icon” on the billing details section. Once you click it, a window will slide in from the right side of your screen.

From the window, you can edit the label of the section.

5. Delete the Order and Shipping Method Sections

Once you have changed the section’s label, to create a checkout like Shopify, we need to delete the order summary and the shipping method sections from the default WooCommerce checkout form and add them in the 2nd step of the checkout.

To delete the sections, click the “Trash” icon on the “Order Summary” and “Shipping Method” sections.

6. Create the Shopify Checkout in WooCommerce

If you notice that the Shopify checkout is multistep, I’ll also create a multistep checkout. To do so, click the “Plus Icon” beside step 1.

Once you click it, a new step will add, but there won’t be any sections or fields except the ‘Payment’ section in the step.

6.1. Change the Lable of Step 2

Once you have added step 2, we need to change its label. To change it, click the black ‘Gear Icon’ on the step and change the label from the popup.

6.2. Add Shipping Method Section

Click the “Add New Section” button to add a new section in the step. Once you click it, a new section will add.

6.3. Change the Label of the Section

To change the section’s label, click the black “Gear Icon” on the section. Once you click the icon, a window will slide in from the right side of your screen. From this window, you can change the label of the section.

To change the “Label of the Section,” enter the label in the “Section Label” field.

6.4. Add Shipping Options Field to the Section

Now, we need to add the shipping options field to the section. To add it, click the ‘Black Gear Icon’ on the right side of your screen.

Once you click the icon, a window will slide in from the right side of the screen. Drag the “Shipping Options” field from the window and drop it into the section.

I have added the third step in the checkout. In the third step, the users can select the payment method and complete the checkout.

7. Select the Design of the Checkout Form

Once you have created the Shopify checkout in WooCommerce, click the “Design” tab to select the column layout. You can choose the layout as

  • Single Column
  • Two Columns

Each layout has some unique templates that you can use. It is still under development, so many more templates will be added with time.

Select the “Two Column” layout because the Shopify checkout is also a two-column layout. Once you select it, you’ll see new templates. Select the ‘Modern Shop Template.’

8. Enable the Shopify Checkout in WooCommerce

Once you have selected the design of the checkout form, click the “Settings” tab and enable the form by toggling the “Enable” button.

1. Give a Name to the Form

Now, In the “Name” field, give a name to the form. The form’s name will be helpful if you have created different forms for different user roles.

You can apply this form to specific user roles from the “Applies to” dropdown. For this tutorial, I am keeping it to “Everyone,” but it depends on your needs.

9. Save Changes

Now click the green “Save” button at the top right corner of your screen to save the settings.

10. Show Logo on Checkout (Optional)

It is an optional step and depends on your choice. If you want to show your store’s logo on the checkout page, AIO Checkout can help you with it.

You need to go to the General Settings of the plugin and click the ‘Settings’ section to open a popup.

10.1. Upload the Image

Once you click it, a popup will open from where you can create a checkout countdown, add a logo and play with other settings. To add a logo, click the ‘Upload Image’ button and select the logo from your WordPress media or upload one from your computer.

10.2. Save Settings

Once you have uploaded the logo, click the green ‘Save‘ button in the popup to save the settings.

Final Results

Once the settings are saved successfully, visit your store’s checkout page, and you’ll notice that the default WooCommerce checkout has been replaced by the Shopify checkout we just created.

In the first step, users will add their email address, which is optional and can fill in the shipping details section.

In the 2nd step, they can select the shipping method, and the last step will be the payment.
