How to Create a Frequently Bought Together Products Section Like Amazon in WooCommerce?

While shopping, you may have seen the ‘Frequently bought together’ section on Amazon or any other eCommerce site. It is beneficial in increasing sales and average order value(AOV).

In WooCommerce, you can add the related or featured product section, but users have to scroll down to see those products. This won’t help you get the results you are looking for.

Showing the frequently bought together products on a product page is a tremendous upselling and cross-selling technique.

But you need to improve the visibility of those upselling or cross-selling products, so users can notice them and buy them together.

Don’t worry. I got you covered here!

In today’s article, I’ll show you the step-by-step process to create a ‘frequently bought together’ products section like Amazon in WooCommerce with the help of the WooCommerce Product Bundles plugin.

Here are the final results we’ll be achieving today.

Before creating the frequently bought-together products section in WooCommerce, let’s see some of its benefits.

Benefits of Frequently Bought Together Products in WooCommerce

As mentioned above, this technique is widely used by the market giant Amazon and other eCommerce stores. There are several reasons and benefits of creating a ‘Frequently bought together’ products section in WooCommerce.

Following are a few of them.

1. Increase Revenue

There is a high chance that if a customer buys a product and sees the frequently bought together products section, they’ll add another product or buy the complete bundle to get the most out of it.

This will affect your sales and revenue.

2. Increase Your AOV

Adding a frequently bought-together section in WooCommerce will also help you increase the average order value (AOV).

If a customer buys one product from your store and they see this section, there is a high chance that they will add another product to the cart. Hence, increasing the average order value(AOV).

3. Encourages Customers to Try New Products

It is an excellent opportunity to upsell or cross-sell additional products and encourage customers to try new products.

Besides these benefits, it will help you gain the user’s trust as you suggest that people usually buy these products together. So it adds a sense of getting the products to them which will also increase your sales

Now let’s dive in and create a frequently bought-together products section like Amazon in WooCommerce.

How to Create a Frequently Bought Together Products Section Like Amazon in WooCommerce?

To create the FBT product section, I’ll be using the WooCommerce Product Bundle plugin. It also allows you to easily create product bundles and upsell and cross-sell the frequently bought together products.

Note: To make this guide concise, I will assume that you have already added the products to your WooCommerce store.

If not, you must first add products to your WooCommerce store before proceeding with this guide.

1. Install and Activate the WooCommerce Product Bundles Plugin

Note: You can skip this step if you have already installed and activated the WooCommerce Product Bundle plugin.

To install the WooCommerce Product Bundle plugin, you will need to install the Woosuite Core plugin and activate it with the help of a license key. We have created a Quick Start Guide for you to figure out how to install and activate the WooCommerce Product Bundle plugin.

2. Create a WooCommerce Product Bundle

We need to create the product bundle by grouping the products you have in your store

To create a product bundle, navigate to Products » Add New from your WordPress dashboard.

1. Give a Name to the Product Bundle

Now, give a name to the product bundle in the Product Name field. I have given it the name “Fashion Trio” as I’ll add three products to the bundle.

2. Scroll to the Product Data Section

After naming it, scroll down to the Product Data section and select “Bundled Product” from the dropdown. Once you choose it, you’ll see a new “Bundled Products” tab on the left side of the section.

Note: If you want, you can play with the other product settings, like adding the product description and image and adding it to a product category to keep everything organized.

I want to be precise, so I am going into the details of configuring the product.

3. Configure the Product Bundle Settings

Now, from the “Bundled Products” tab, you can select the products to make a group or bundle and set the pricing and quantity of each selected product.

Following are the few settings that you can configure here.

3.1. Template: I have kept it to the default. You can change it to “Above the fold,” and if you like it, you can continue with it.

3.2. Apply to: This field defines how you want to group the products. You’ll get the following options in the dropdown.

  • Products
  • Product Categories
  • Product Tags

I have selected the individual products from the dropdown as I want to bundle the individual products.

3.3. Select Products: In this field, you can select the individual variable products you want to offer as a product bundle.

I have selected three different products.

3.4. Quantity: In this field, you need to enter the number of each product you want to offer in the bundled product. Please enter 1 in each product’s quantity field, as we want to upsell these products.

3.5. Price Display: You’ll get three options in the dropdown

  • Combined: It means that the prices of each product are summed up and displayed to the user.
  • Range: It means that the price will be shown in the range, from the lowest price of the product in the bundle to the highest price of the product in the bundle.
  • Custom: It means that you can specify the price of the bundled product as you want.

For this tutorial, I have selected the ‘Custom’ price display. Once you select this option, you’ll see two more fields below it to set the price.

You can select the User Role if you want to set the user role-specific pricing for this product bundle. I am keeping them to default, but you can play with the settings.

3.6. Enable “Add all to cart”: This field allows you to choose if you want to display the Add all to cart button on the bundle product page to allow users to add all the product items in the bundle to the cart at once. I have selected “Yes” from the dropdown.

3.7. Hide Individual “Add to cart” button: This field allows you to choose if you want to display the add to cart button for the individual products in the bundle. I have selected “No” from the dropdown.

3.8. Hide “Individual Quantity Field”: This field lets you choose if you want to allow the users to set the quantity of the individual product.

Keep this to Yes, if you do not want to allow the users to change the individual product quantity in the bundled product and create their own set of products.

3.9. Hide Individual Prices: This field allows you to choose whether to display individual products’ prices. I have selected Yes from the dropdown as I do not want to display the prices of individual products.

3.10. Hide Individual Description: This field enables you to select whether you want to display the description of each product on the bundled product page. I have chosen “Yes” from the dropdown.

3.11. Hide Bundle Upsell Notice: Enabling this option will display the upsell notice on each product’s page in the bundle. I do not want to hide it, so I have selected No from the dropdown, and I recommend keeping this setting the same as I have.

4.  Publish the Product

Now scroll down above and click the blue Publish button to publish the product.

4. Navigate to the WooCommerce Product Bundles

Once you have created the bundled product, navigate to the WooSuite » WooCommerce Product Bundles from your WordPress admin dashboard.

5. Enable the Frequently Bought Products Section

Once you are in the settings of the bundle plugin, please enable the ‘Enable Bundle Upsell’ option to create a frequently bought-together products section on the product page.

This option will display the product bundle we created in the previous step on the product page, but the products in the bundle will have the frequently bought-together section.

So, first, you’ll need to create a bundle and then enable this option to create the FBT section on the product pages that are added to the bundle. Users will also be able to buy the bundle as well.

1. Set the Bundle Upsell Text

Below the upsell bundle feature, you’ll see the Bundle Upsell Text field. In this field, you’ll need to enter the text that will be displayed as a notice on each product’s page.

2. Select the Upsell Template

Please select the ‘Bundled Products List’ from the Upsell Template field to display the frequently bought together section.

6. Save Changes

After that, please click the green ‘Save Changes’ button at the top right corner of your screen to save the settings and create a frequently bought-together section like Amazon in WooCommerce.

7. Final Results

Now, let’s see the final results. To check the results, please visit the product page of any product added to the bundle.

You’ll see a new frequently bought-together section on the product page below the Add to Cart button.

Conclusion

That’s it for today’s tutorial.
